The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has announced conflicts and climate shocks hinder humanitarian interventions, particularly in Ethiopia’s Amhara region and other parts of the country.

It has further highlighted that inflation and low levels of purchasing power have doubled the problems, particularly for those who are Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

According to the new Shelter Cluster report, “as the situation continues to worsen, the provision of humanitarian aid is declining, which is likely to push the displacement-affected population into even greater vulnerability”.

The Global Shelter Cluster (GSC), an Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) has also revealed that only 19% (596K) out of  3.1 million of the targeted displaced population have been reached as of September 30, 2024.

It has also indicated that donors are working to reach an additional 7% or 210,000 of the displaced populations in the remaining three months of the year.

“This leaves a gap of 74% (2.3M) that still needs to be addressed in the final three months of the year. The achievements thus far were made possible by securing 26% (USD 33.6M) of the required USD 127.9M, leaving a funding gap of 74% (USD 94.3M),” reads the report.
