A prominent Ethiopian Political Party, Enat Party has announced that nine people from the same family were killed by armed groups in Ethiopia’s Sole Ferenqas and Sole Tuja Kebeles, Shirka Wereda (district), Arsi Zone of Oromia region today at 2 am GMT+3.
Enat Party said in its investigation report posted on Facebook, two above 70-years-old elders as well as women and youths are among the victims.
Residents assured Enat Party that the massacre was committed by “The Jungle Shene” who brought the victims to a riverbank and brutally killed them.
Enat said it has lists of the dead and also disclosed people’s name – Ato Genene Tekalegn, Ato Kasahun Eshetu, Ato Abebe Assefa, and Ato Shibru Asefa whom have been kidnapped, and their whereabouts are still unknown.
Residents told Enat Party that such identity and religion-based horrific attacks have been committed in the area for the last five years and yet the killings are underreported, which led them to feel marginalized, desperate, and helpless.
According to the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and other multiple reports, a series of attacks by unidentified assailants based on religion and identity have occurred in the Arsi Zone of Oromia.
Classified as “Shene” by Addis Ababa, the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) has been fighting the government forces since PM Abiy Ahmed took office in 2018 and is accused of the assaults occurred in the Oromia region by the government.
OLA, which splinted from the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), however, has repeatedly debunked the allegations and instead made the government “responsible” for the barbaric crimes.
